Acute Medicine/ Urgent Care

Qualified as a Podiatrist in 2003 and was fortunate enough to obtain a post at Salford Royal NHS Trust, later to become Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. For the following 10 years I had the opportunity to work under the mentorship of Prof. Paul Chadwick (Clinical Director of the College of Podiatry) and Dr. Jane McAdam (Director of Podiatry and Orthotics Salford University). I then split my time between SRFT and Pennine Acute NHS Trust as a Band 7 Advanced Specialist Podiatrist, gained my prescribing qualification and got to work alongside Martin Fox (Advanced Vascular Specialist Podiatrist) and Dr Jill Halstead (Advanced MSK Podiatrist and Researcher).

Working with such inspirational leaders motivated me to continue to develop and extend my scope of practice, to a point, where I felt clinically, I couldn’t go any further. Then, came an opportunity to enter into a full-time training post for Advanced Clinical Practice, which lifted the ceiling for clinical advancement. I now work on the Acute Medical Unit at North Manchester General Hospital and split my time between there, A&E and our ambulatory Care unit.

I am also on the editorial board of the peer reviewed journal, Wounds UK.

I hope that my story inspires other Podiatrists to see their potential and enter into Advanced Clinical Practice.
