MSK Podiatrist and Senior Lecturer
Emma Cowley is a lecturer in podiatry at the University of Plymouth, co-founder of the largest special advisory group in the College of Podiatry, MSK:UK, and holds roles at the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Alliance, College of Podiatry and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Passionate about the impact of musculoskeletal podiatry, Emma has invested her career into specialising in this field, led an MSK team in the NHS in one of the first polyclinics in the country and now continues in independent practice. Her research portfolio is in the effects of high heels on gait and posture and, more recently, the effects of prolonged running on the biomechanics and function of the foot and ankle. In her role as vice-dean of the Directorate of Podiatric Medicine (CoP) has, been tasked with developing a career framework and MSK competency spine for the profession in collaboration with Health Education England.
